How She Became More Confident And Strong (And You Can, Too)

Visualize coming to yoga classes two times a week.

Picture yourself with enough energy to ride a tandem bicycle on the weekends.

Think of completing 2, 000, 000 meters on your rowing machine.

Now imagine doing all of that with a paralyzed left foot.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg of Donna’s story. And that’s why we’re proud to have her as our Client of the Month.

“A friend of mine wanted to do some exercise together. So we decided to try Winter Garden Yoga and I’ve been coming ever since,” said Donna.

That was back in 2011.

“I had tried yoga before with private lessons but was really interested in group exercise and meeting people,” Donna said. “I’ve always done some type of exercise, but I wasn’t getting the benefits I wanted.”

“There were no balance poses and the private lessons were expensive,” said Donna.

That’s why Donna likes Winter Garden Yoga so much.

“The poses at WGY challenged me in a good way,” Donna said, “and gave me the confidence to do more things.”

In fact, she’s able to take water samples from her swimming pool with ease. According to Donna, this chore used to be extremely difficult.

“To check the pool water, you basically have to squat. And that was hard for me because of my paralyzed left foot. Now it’s easy because my balance is so much better,” said Donna. “Belive it or not, that was major for me.”

“I’ve gained so much from Winter Garden Yoga,” Donna said, “getting up and down off the ground is easier. My balance is better. I have better posture… and I’m aware when my posture is off.”

This pose used to be impossible for Donna because of her tight muscles.


Donna also remembers when a popular pose (child’s pose) was impossible for her to do because her muscles were so tight. But now she does it with ease.

“I used to have to hold on to the wall for every single standing yoga pose,” Donna remembered, “now it’s limited to a few because I’m stronger and I’ve got more confidence now.”

“After WGY I was able to try other things. Tandem biking is a big part of my life now. It’s great because it’s something I can do with my husband,” Donna said.

Aside from the fantastic physical assests Donna has gained from her regular yoga practice, she truly values the amazing community of WGY.

“I’ve met some really good friends at WGY and that’s a big benefit to me,” said Donna. “It’s great for accountability and staying on track because sometimes I go even if I don’t want to since I know my friends are expecting to see me.”

Donna trusts all of the teachers at WGY because they’ll make sure you’re doing yoga right.

“If you keep at it, your yoga will get better. I have not quit for almost six years. I never miss unless I’m on vacation or if I get sick… and I rarely get sick,” said Donna.
