How She Gained Flexibility And Lessened Her Pain (And You Can, Too)

Have you ever been at a crossroads in your life?

You know what I mean, a time when you knew you had to take action for positive change or do nothing and accept a lackluster life.

It happens a lot to nearly everyone.

It happened to Judi.

But she chose to overcome her fear and decided to take a leap of faith.

And because of her bravery, she has reduced her chronic back pain by 50%, increased her core strength, and has better balance. All of which Judi thought would be impossible to achieve.

Endless Pain

“I was in a lot of pain from degenerative disc disease and was ready to give up,” said Judi. “I’ve got herniating discs compressing the nerves of my low back and I’ve been fighting this since I was in my 30s.”

Judi gave traditional medicine a try but it wasn’t giving her the relief she needed.

“I’ve had six procedures done between October 2016 all the way through March 2017,” Judi said, “I had been taking medication for muscle spasms and pain and it wasn’t fixing the problem.”

Then one day, Judi’s doctor suggested that she give yoga a try.

“My son had also told me to take some yoga classes,” said Judi. “In fact, my son recommended Winter Garden Yoga -specifically- because he’d gone there and loved it. He said, ‘Mom, this isn’t like any other yoga studio… you can do this… the instructors are great… I think you’ll love it.'”

Overcoming Fear

Judi admitted that she suffered from the fear of change, especially because she felt yoga was something she couldn’t do.

“My friends wanted me to try hot yoga,” Judi said, “but I’m not going to do hot yoga because it didn’t sound like true yoga. It sounded like a fad to me. And I don’t like being uncomfortable and having sweat pouring down my face. I knew that my body wouldn’t tolerate hot yoga.”

“But then I read WGY’s blogs,” said Judi, “I was looking for something that was more than a fad. Something that would help me on more than one level and that was Winter Garden Yoga.”

Finally, Judi came to her life-changing decision, “I’m going to give Winter Garden Yoga a try.”

Her Place

You can imagine how nervous Judi was when she first walked into the yoga studio.

“I couldn’t touch my knees, I needed my arms to help me get up and down out of a chair, and I was walking around like an old woman bent over in constant pain,” Judi said.

But once she got started, she found her place.

“Yoga has helped more than anything,” said Judi.

She feels it’s because the message at Winter Garden Yoga isn’t about pushing into the pain… it’s about doing what you can do. And because of that, Judi has increased her ability to do everything.

“I’ve got more mobility and better balance,” Judi said. “In fact, my balance is off the charts compared to where it was. Now I can stand in tree pose while Kathy goes out to grab a coffee. That’s something that was impossible before.”

“My pain has been reduced by 50% which is amazing because nothing else worked at all,” Judi said, “even after having some nerves in my back burned and killed.”

“I love the feeling of being in a family,” said Judi, “and I love that the instructors are really looking for your best interest. They’re watching you and helping you grow.”

Judi benefits when she’s away from the studio, too.

“My back pain doesn’t stop after doing yoga,” Judi said,”I watch my posture now, I stand up taller. I put my shoulders back. I tilt my pelvis forward. Because when you don’t realize you’re doing harm to yourself by doing certain things, you don’t know how to fix it.  But I can now.”

Judi’s Message

“Don’t be afraid to do this. I was the biggest doubter of all. I didn’t think anything would help me.

“But Winter Garden Yoga is the best thing I’ve ever done. I get emotional about it. I’m very happy here,” Judi said.
